What is the correct oil to use in your Sprinter diesel engine van?
This question is the most asked of the Sprinter Guy, and about 1 1/2 years ago I posted the response to this question from our Chief Sprinter Tech here at MB of Georgetown. Here is the link if you want to reread his response.
I have had clients who said they had difficulty finding the correct Mobile 1 oil at the Big Box store or even some auto parts stores. My suggestion is, go to the closest Mercedes-Benz dealership’s parts department and tell them you want this part number.
This is the MB branded oil that the dealership will use to change your oil. This will be the correct 229.52 blend, and is 5W-30 weight. If you live in severe cold climates you might use a different oil weight. Please don’t ask me which to use for where you live, here in Texas we use 5W-30.
But I have another suggestion, instead of worrying about changing the oil in your current Sprinter van, just trade it in on a new 2016 or 2017 Sprinter or Metris van. The new Sprinter has a 20,000 mile or annual service so you don’t have to worry about the oil change for quite a while.
As always, for your questions about Sprinter vans, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 512-942-6923. I don’t know everything about Sprinter vans, but I bet I can find out or I can give you some direction as to where to look for your answer.
Check out the August Special Offers from the Sprinter Guy on the remaining new 2016 Sprinter Passenger vans. You will be very pleased.
